Spend a magical day on this unspoilt island

We take a leisurely drive around the island with plenty of stops for flowers, birds, seals and spectacular island views. Time to learn something of mans continuous settlement from five thousand years ago, to the thriving community of today. However, since Rousay boasts more than 160 archaeological sites some selection is necessary!

We arrive at Midhowe Broch and Chambered Cairn at Lunchtime.  The Broch and Cairn are 2 of the finest archaeological sites in Orkney, which lie close to the shore. They are only accessible on foot. I strongly advise you to wear good comfortable footwear.

Midhowe Broch

After our visit to Midhowe there will be time to enjoy a picnic lunch* before we head off to visit the Yarso stalled cairn, Blackhammer cairn, and the Taversoe Tuick (which is split into two levels).

                                  Blackhammer Cairn                                                                                              Taversoe Tuick

During the day we will also visit Saviskaill Bay to do a bit of seal spotting, and if we are extremely lucky you may see an otter or two! The drive around the island will also provided you with some spectacular scenery and on a clear day, a view of most of the other islands from the top of Sourin Brae.

Saviskaill Bay

After the tour I will drop you back at the Pier so that you will be able to explore the Rousay heritage center. Time permitting I can also drop you at Trumland House Gardens (Admission £1.50) so you can take a look around the grounds of this unique house.
